COMMUNICATIONS MANAGEMENT FOR SUCCESS: THE "SCIENCE" OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Doug Land3 IDCEC HOURS | 9:15 A.M. to 12:15 P.M.
The most commonly cited reason for project failure is communication breakdown. Many times, this breakdown occurs because of poor management of communication channels, mediums and stakeholder expectations. This workshop will give you the tools you need to effectively manage communications by understanding "who needs what and when." Interior designers who don't know what's happening on their project, day by day, week by week is, quite frankly, a train wreck waiting to happen! You will learn the importance of status reporting and how to do it effectively.

SPEAKER Douglas Land, President and Founder, Lobstick Project Solutions Inc.
Doug is an award winning Trainer, Coach and Consultant in the areas of Project Management; Communications; Contract Management and Organizational Effectiveness. His background includes training and consulting work with many private corporations in the U.S. and Canada; municipal, regional and provincial governments, as well as many Aboriginal groups and organizations.

RISE OF THE HUMAN FACTOR

Tracey Conn1 IDCEC HOUR | 1:45 to 2:45 P.M.
During the past four years, we have been so focused on reducing cost, the impact of technology and making our buildings sustainable that we are forgetting who we are designing for -- people. Many office-based workers are not living healthy lives today. True, greener buildings are healthier for the occupant but that is not enough. Sitting stagnantly at a desk and staring at a computer all day is killing us faster than anything else. Distractions, the constant "pinging" of technology, and the lack of privacy are negatively impacting productivity. We need to refocus on engaging the worker and empowering them to move business forward today. A new movement is afoot to do just that.

SPEAKER Tracey Conn, BID, Teknion – A&D Market Manager, BC Sales
Tracey Conn has a Bachelor of Applied Interior Design from Mount Royal University in 2003 and studied marketing and business development at the Pacific Audio Visual Institute in Vancouver in 2009. While a practising designer she worked on corporate, retail, hospitality, and residential projects. In business development, she had the opportunity to intern at the David Suzuki Foundation to help with the national campaign, Playlist for The Planet, and then was at Joel Berman Glass Studios in Vancouver before joining Teknion in 2012. Tracy volunteers on several committees for IDIBC and is a member of IFMA, NEWH, and CCW.
