Cities Across Canada Proclaim World Interiors Day

World Interiors Day, held annually the last Saturday in May, is a worldwide event that celebrates the positive impact of design on society. In honour of World Interiors Day 2013, Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Manitoba, Toronto, Ottawa, Fredericton and Halifax officially proclaimed May 25, 2013, as “World Interiors Day.” (Click cities to read proclamations).

“Interior design is more than just aesthetics,” said past-president of IDC and IFI board member, David Hanson. “It's about finding creative design solutions for interior environments while supporting the health, safety and well being of occupants and enhancing their quality of life. I’m delighted that seven of Canada’s major cities and the province of Manitoba have acknowledged the value that interior design contributes to society by officially proclaiming World Interiors Day.”

World Interiors Day is spearheaded by the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) to spotlight interior design. This year’s theme “Celebrating 50 Years of Design Around the Globe” recognizes the rich history of global communication and consensus within the interiors profession. In honour of its 50th anniversary, IFI and its member associations, including IDC, aims to have 50 cities around the world proclaim World Interiors Day. In past years, several cities including New York City, Montreal and Taipei have made the proclamation.

In Fredericton, Mayor Brad Woodside met with members of ARIDNB at City Hall, where he delivered the proclamation. In Halifax, Deputy Mayor Reg Rankin read the proclamation at an event attended by IDNS members at the Cut Steakhouse & Urban Grill restaurant.

IDC's World Interiors Day celebrations also included our 25 Ways to Celebrate World Interiors Day social media campaign. We hope it gave you some great ideas for celebrating your profession.

IDC thanks all of our members whose hard work made the proclamation, events and social media campaign a success.
