SHARE YOUR VOICE AND MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE FUTURE OF MIGRATION, CULTURE AND DIVERSITY - (8 IDCEC hours)

    Registration opens in February 2017.

The 2017 Impact Summit will be the first ever in Canada, and is taking place in Toronto’s rejuvenated Regent Park. Summit attendees will include senior practitioners and emerging leaders in the fields of design and architecture, building and facilities management, city planning, all levels of government, and the business and non-profit sectors.

This venue will facilitate an intimate experience, allowing for one-on-one time with experts and peers drawn from the design field and beyond. Walking tours will be led by architects David Miller, Susan Spencer Lewin and Registered interior designer Tarisha Dolyniuk – providing excellent insight since they are key players from the design teams which worked on key buildings within the Regent Park regeneration program. There will also be a neighbourhood tour with a community coordinator and city planner.

Migration and how to respond to its multiple challenges remains at the forefront of the media as well as political, socio-economic, and human rights agendas.

With contemporary society seemingly in a state of flux, grappling with how to build and sustain cohesive, integrated, inclusive communities that serve the needs of all equally, you will be witness and contribute to expert discussions on the future of migration, culture and diversity and their key roles within North American society.

The 2015 Impact Summit in Orlando, Florida resulted in an excellent White Paper, and 2017 will be no different. Not only will you receive extensive education and networking opportunities but you will be actively involved in discussions that will help shape the future of our communities.

    Speakers and panelists

To provide inspiration and stimulate discussion, there will be panels showcasing:

Migration – with Dr. Ghayda Hassan, David Cordell, Jon Penndorf, and Dr. Michael Ungar.

Diversity – with Valerie Fletcher, Louisa Taylor, Dr. Lisa Andermann and Angela Draskovic.

Culture – with Habon Ali, Kia Weatherspoon, Trevor Kruse (Moderator), and Fatu Songawa.

Keynote – Dr. Suzanne L. Stewart (YK Dene), PhD, C. Psych.

    Summit program

Each day, there will be a delicious hot catered breakfast to start the day off on the right foot! Refreshment breaks and buffet lunches will be provided throughout the duration of the Summit - all included in the purchase of your ticket.

Attendees will be drawn from multiple professional disciplines, giving you the opportunity to network and rub shoulders with the who’s who of the design, development, business, government and non-profit circles throughout North America.

This conference is for seasoned practitioners, thought leaders and emerging influencers. IDC and ASID are committed to highlighting the importance of the built environment to the future of the communities in which we live and work. The Impact Summit will be a meeting of minds, where we work together to forge solutions for the greater good.

    Increasing Migration pressures

In Canada, we are a melting pot of diverse cultures and evolving demographics. As migratory patterns intensify due to economic, climactic and socio-political upheaval, a demographic revolution is taking place. Through thought-provoking discussion, we will seek innovative solutions to the challenges and opportunities presented by migration, culture, and diversity in the built environment.

We will work together to address issues such as:

    • How do we encourage resilient design in our cities and neighborhoods to support and serve migratory populations?
    • How do we create inclusive societies that instill a culture of belonging?
    • How do we celebrate the diversity that is rooted in our identity?

The Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) and The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) seek to foster action through insightful and provocative programming designed to help members and participants connect, collaborate, and drive ideas to action. To extend this invitation to as many professional colleagues as possible IDC and ASID are offering a preferential member rates to our sister professional associations including graphic designers, architects, city planners, facility managers and building owners and managers, to name but a few.

    Registration includes:

    • All conference meals: Breakfast, lunch and refreshment breaks/snacks
    • All keynotes, panel discussions, tours and breakout sessions
